Angkor Wat is the greatest existing monument of the Ancient World. Angkor Wat is also a World Heritage Site which is a symbol and a prime attraction of Angkor, Cambodia. Since the 1990 Angkor Wat has seen a massive increase in tourism and has become a major tourist destination with over a million international visits a year. Unlike most temples in Angkor, Cambodia. Angkor Wat is a temple built for King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century by the Khmer architects between 802 and 1220 AD using sandstone as the main building material.

Angkor Wat is the prime example of the classical style of Khmer architecture. A moat and three galleries encircle the five central shrines. The temple mountain and the galleried temple are two basic plans of Khmer temple architecture which is designed to represent Mount Meru as the home of the gods in Hindu mythology. Angkor Wat is within a moat and an outer wall of 3.6 km long with three rectangular galleries each raised above the other. The first gallery has square pillars on the outer side and a closed wall on the inner side with ceiling between the pillars is decorated with lotus rosettes. The bas-reliefs around the first gallery were carved to teach Khmer people about Vishu and the two famous religious epics which are the Mahabharata and Ramayamo. The closed wall are decorated with dancing figures. The outside the inner wall is decorated with pillared windows, apsaras and dancing male figures on prancing animals. Apsaras are found on the walls of all galleries. The first gallery is a long avenue leads to the second gallery via a raised platform with lions on both sides of a staircase. The inner walls of the second gallery contain continuous narrative relief. The third gallery encloses the five shrines which are built on a raised terrace and are interconnected by galleries. The roofings of the galleries are decorated with the motif of the body of a snake ending in the heads of lions or garudas. At the center of the Angkor Wat stands a temple with five lotus-shaped towers, a larger central tower, and four smaller surrounding towers. These represent the five peaks of Mount Meru according to Hindu belief
